Join Brilliant Abundance and the women of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Lambda Xi Chapter (Setaria 7), as we launch our #PreventionStartsWithME social media campaign that includes quotes on awareness, prevention, mental health, and self-love; inspiring stories from 7 college-aged women who are working to heal their trauma individually and as a group of sisters who can depend on each other during their times of need; and lastly a Public Service Announcement video creating awareness around sexual assault and child abuse prevention.
This unique collaboration allows for real-time students to engage in a process of creating more self-awareness about the experiences of trauma they have endured, while building a greater sense of confidence in sharing their stories with other students like them who may be in great need and unsure where she can turn.
Brilliant Abundance operates under a 3-fold mission that brings healing in through story-telling, soul-connecting, and self-advocacy, with self-love, while Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. operates their programming under a 5-point programmatic thrust, by which this collaboration falls under physical and mental health.
As this campaign launches on the heels of April, yet during Mental Health Awareness month it is important that we recognize the intersections of physical and mental well-being. As we endure traumas, whether physical, emotional, or mental the energies of those traumas move through our bodies and manifest in ways we may be unaware of due to the pain and hurt. It is important to shine light on these intersections to continue bringing more awareness and less shame and stigma to mental health needs, as well as physical traumas.
While growing into who each of you will become as college students, physical and mental health are high priorities as students navigate new environments; determine new plans for safety and self-advocacy; manage a new grueling academic schedule of classes and homework study hours; while possibly maintaining a part-time or even full-time employment and some resemblance of a social life.
Each of these young ladies share their unique lens and personal stories of how they have journeyed through and are overcoming their current and past life traumas to be their best selves; healed and living in their Brilliant Abundance.
Don’t forget to catch the PSA at 9:13pm, pacific standard time on May 15, 2019.
